I am back on the mainland and blogging from Seattle with South Austin in the rearview mirror. Don't worry Virgin Island fans, I will most certainly be back in the Caribbean for visits if not full-time. And I'm sure St. Thomas will creep it's way into many future posts. For now, it's all about living in the Pacific Northwest!

There is a street here named Donough pronounced and often spelled Donoe. It is in the middle of the island and for me, serves as a sort of Bermuda Triangle. I am sometimes meandering around the island in an effort to avoid traffic or some other inexplicable road closure and I always find myself there... where? Donoe! It is a whole new way to be lost and found at the same time. I find it comforting that Donoe is a physical location. Donoe! It serves as a catch all answer for strange or indescribable things (like Jump Up or Waste Management responding to a police chase). It is the only possible answer to: Why is that? or Really?... Donoe! My friend Randi noticed a VI Tran bus the other day headed up Raphune Hill. The front of the VI Tran bus announced it's destination as Hidden Valley via Donoe. She's really funny in that when asked what all the commotion is, her answer alternates between "Dunoe" and "Jump Up" (depending on the level of commotion). I haven't seen the bus since which could mean that either it was a one time and now discontinued route, or more likely that it has indeed found and remained in Hidden Valley via Donoe.
