I am back on the mainland and blogging from Seattle with South Austin in the rearview mirror. Don't worry Virgin Island fans, I will most certainly be back in the Caribbean for visits if not full-time. And I'm sure St. Thomas will creep it's way into many future posts. For now, it's all about living in the Pacific Northwest!

I have been working for several weeks without a day off. It makes me happy to write this sentence because for almost a year, my professional identity has been only "one of the RIF'd masses". I use the term RIF'd as an aggressive verb because it sometimes feels as though I have been violated. But not today. Today, I have the day off from my job selling luxury optical eyewear accessories (sunglasses) and I own today. Today is mine.

The sun has already risen and it portends a perfect island day. From my view on top of Crown Mountain I can see the ocean calm and glistening. The tranquility of St. John is beckoning and always a short ferry ride away. My options are boundless. Whatever today brings, at the very least it means my toes in the sand and a drink in my hand (heard daily here and in some country song I think). At the very most, it will bring me that and a contact that finally gets me on my perfect yacht! I am hopeful that with each day here I am closer to that perfect life balance of work and play and further from the imbalance of the corporate world.

P.S. If you are a hiring manager for Cisco or some other IT/Telecom company looking for a great Project Manager... please disregard that last sentence. I'm available!
