I am back on the mainland and blogging from Seattle with South Austin in the rearview mirror. Don't worry Virgin Island fans, I will most certainly be back in the Caribbean for visits if not full-time. And I'm sure St. Thomas will creep it's way into many future posts. For now, it's all about living in the Pacific Northwest!

Waterfront Witness

There was an accident on waterfront last night. The other Big Kahuna patrons and I watched it happen. A normal, minor incident... an illegal turn by one vehicle combined with a poorly maneuvered parking lot exit from another. Crunching metal! So now traffic was building and the few cars that were getting by were doing so slowly as they skirted the wreckage and craned their necks to see what had happened. One of the cars "getting by" was the familiar police car. The officers inside slowed down and surveyed the scene. They even stopped for a brief minute or so before moving on. I expected that some assistance with traffic direction would be provided. But that was not to be. The continued on without a further glance back. The concensus among my happy hour crowd was that if it involved paperwork, then it could work itself out without them. Another friend of mine likened the officers attention to that of driving by a uninteresting garage sale. I will take that a bit further and say that there are a lot of "yard sales" going on here at any given time and while they might not all merit getting out of the car, they at least deserve a look.
