I am back on the mainland and blogging from Seattle with South Austin in the rearview mirror. Don't worry Virgin Island fans, I will most certainly be back in the Caribbean for visits if not full-time. And I'm sure St. Thomas will creep it's way into many future posts. For now, it's all about living in the Pacific Northwest!

About all I notice lately...

It's hard to notice much when it's this hot!

But... it does make me notice things primarily related to the heat.  I notice that it is truly dangerous to make the walk from my front door to the pool shoeless. I notice that no matter how much I LOVE not having a car payment that I'd gladly take on an unreasonable and never ending car payment as long as said car had a working air conditioner. I notice that my romantic notions about Austin have cooled considerably and I think about moving not just daily but sometimes hourly.  I am thinking of heading back down to St. Thomas for a break from the heat. I notice that people in general are a bit more agitated. At the dog park the other day, on my way back to my car, I noticed a man with a latte in one hand and a leashed labrador in the other. He was SCREAMING. After a brief scan, I noticed what/who he was screaming at. A man kneeling by the water hose and dousing himself and his dog with the tepid water as an attempt at bathing? Anyway, the screamer was directing this man to bathe at a homeless shelter and ranting about the amount of run-off and finally began a bellowing thirty second countdown to a 911 call.  The "homeless man" flipped the bird at the screamer and then he (wearing only a pair of running shorts and joggers) and his dog headed out. I think it's time for a deep breath, a frozen beverage, and a refreshing dip in Barton Springs to bring back my smile. I know the rains will come again but until then, go find your smile however you can.
