I am back on the mainland and blogging from Seattle with South Austin in the rearview mirror. Don't worry Virgin Island fans, I will most certainly be back in the Caribbean for visits if not full-time. And I'm sure St. Thomas will creep it's way into many future posts. For now, it's all about living in the Pacific Northwest!

A SX day with portent?

Though I arranged for flexibility in my work schedule, I did have an appointment which gave me a late start to the film schedule today. Most disappointing was missing A Conversation with Seth MacFarlane at the convention center this morning. Yes, I know it wasn't a date but it still would have been cool. My appointment over, I headed to one of the smaller venues (still optimistic) to see Frankie Go Boom. No chance there but alas, I had a backup plan!

Her Master's Voice was at the Alamo Ritz so I hoofed it four blocks North and a few blocks East just in time.  I had seen the You Tube trailer and expected to see the "internationally famous" ventriloquist Nina Conti and get a glimpse into the life of the performer. I didn't expect such a raw and intimate view of the person.  During the Q&A after the film, I remarked that she appeared to be struggling through a process to find closure with her relationship to Ken Campbell and asked if she had.  She replied, "That closure is happening right now,  really the entire film was a love letter to Ken and with this [showing of the film], I've sent it".  That... is the reason I love the film festival.

Sorry for the pic quality... not my best :(

I was so thrilled about my last film experience, that I had almost forgotten about my disappointing morning. So in an effort to end on a positive note, I decided NOT to wait in line for Marley. Turns out, I would've gotten in.

Film Count: 19
